XMPP Jabber Jingle server
Deploy a cheap VoIP network using the Jabber (XMPP) Jingle protocol. This can be built in a standards compliant way on at least 2 extremely well known and well used Jabber servers (ejabberd and Openfire).

Your blog is a great one. What really impresses me is that you are correctly mentioned that there are thousands of tools that are available to create a website or launch one but what matters is that you choose the right one, the one that gives you all that is actually needed.

is the Jabber (XMPP) Jingle protocol secure and stable? I wouldn't risk all the information transferred using the protocol to be only nab by some hack tool and captured it.

I like the idea of being
I like the idea of being able to voice call a user on the same IM community as one which I belong to. The question or concern I would have is around gaining momentum on the platform and enticing users to use the Jabber service instead of well established P2P platforms such as Skype.
Ultimately Metcalfe's law is a real bitch unless you have a clear plan to elevate the popularity of the network to a status where you have all your contacts available on the platform. Baring this, one could look at SIP trunks off the platform to do PSTN, MNO and ROW termination. Problem with this is one needs to then consider billing platforms, support, IP-IP interconnects and a myriad of other logistical and operational issues.

You can use Nimbuzz Client (Mobile or PC), which is a XMPP Jingle Client to connect to your SIP Provider or Personal SIP Server(Company Asterisk or iptel.org Services for instance). This proves how powerful and inter-operable Jingle is. white gold jewellery | Electronics and Communications

From the company's perspective it would make sense to encourage this because, at scale, it would result in the company having to rent less parking bays on a monthly basis. Also, with a bit of marketing spin companies could use the bus as a driving billboard, highlighting their forward thinking culture. flashlights

@paulscott56, i'm adding jingle functionality to the current jabber server. please give me a while though. i'm arranging another public IP so the STUN stuff works. i've also never played with jingle before, so there's a chance that slows me down as well. but so far so good.
also, please let me know whether the pubsubpubhub stuff you asked for is working. it seems to be, but i didn't hear anything back from you the last time.

Not down playing the idea, just putting some reality sauce on it :)
With that said, we are in the process of launching a ISLABs Jabber server and will certainly consider this. I will ask the project owners to comment.
