yeah, DDNS can be problematic at times, it really depends on your ISP provider, some isp monitor stand provides much better value, and allow you to encode, and use different dns settings, other wont.

I think a lot of power users use local-only ADSL due to the cheaper data rates and a lot of them also tend to use Dynamic DNS (DDNS) to gain remote VPN/SSH access to their home (or work) machines or even run the usual internet services (Web, FTP, XMPP, IRC, etc) across their ADSL connection.
If you can provide better options with competitive prices, this may have a great impact on the industry.

My AT&T 3G coverage for my I-Phone seems to have gotten faster over the past few months though. I can't wait to see where we are in all of this 5 years from now. Sounds like a cool idea... but I am sure that SA has a DNS farm somewhere in SA....

All that needs to be done is to set your DNS server pointers to that server.... The next thing is for all SA local ISPs to have peer to peer networking, so that you do not use expensive international bandwidth....

This would have to be done even if you were to set up a dedicated SA DNS separately...
