It could be a possibility, I don’t know how important external monitoring would be though. I normally use freenode servers for dedicated web hosting and haven’t encountered any major problems.

I had an email conversation with Andrew Alston of Tenet a number of years ago regarding this. I was enquiring why they decided to open an EFnet server instead of a Freenode server as I myself would also probably find more value in using Freenode than EFnet. If memory serves correctly (and this could have changed since), Freenode required root access to all the servers that are part of their network, which is obviously a risk in certain ways.

Maybe in a proper virtualised environment with external monitoring, this could be made possible?
